How to Build a Chicken Coop Series Part 3 of 4 by azhagukumar
Security is also super key, I think it is probably just as important if not more important than anything. You don't have a good location design or a good maintenance design, the worst that might happen is your chickens will be unhappy which means they won't lay eggs. Not making sure you sufficient security could mean that you won't have chickens literally.
Security from outside animals are must but in addition you will need to make sure that your chickens are secure from your own animals. The first time we had chickens we had a dog that was meant for assisting us in guarding the chickens. Well needless to say we woke up one morning and found feathers all over the living room and what looked like a beak on the outside. In addition my husband found one of his roostes badly injured which he nursed back to health. It was our first lesson on raising chickens but it was a powerful one. We will never again underestimate the importance of security.

Top Tip #3 Security
When using the ideas and plans for your chicken coop, pay close attention to security of your chickens that describes how to protect them from predators. Be under no illusion that they will attack if they can. Simple things, such as reinforcing the coop with mesh wire will help to ensure that predators cannot gain access.
